Introduction to BLS for Dentists
In this first section we introduce you to your BLS and AED for Dentists online course, and explain how you can do an optional practical summary either in the classroom, or virtually via Zoom. We then talk to you about the fears of first aid, asking permission to help, and calling the Emergency Services. You will then learn about DR ABC and the ABCD's, as well as initial assessment and the recovery position. We talk you through barriers and gloves, the infant recovery position, and finally, fainting at the dental practise.
Cardiac Arrest and CPR
This section gives you an introduction to CPR. We look at adult, child and infant CPR, as well as CPR in the current circumstances with Coronavirus Covid-19. This section also covers heart attacks, seizures and cardiac arrest.
Choking Management
In this section you will learn all about choking. We cover choking in adults, children and infants. This section will show you how to recognise that someone is choking, and how to treat them.
Other Medical Conditions
In this section you will learn about other medical conditions that you may come across. We cover allergic reactions and anaphylaxis and the treatments used. We also look at epilepsy, asthma and diabetes.
Special Dental Requirements
In this section you will learn all about special dental requirements. These requirements include oxygen kits, portable suction units and bag valve masks (BVM). You will learn about dental medications kits, and finally, how and when dental medical drugs are used.
How to use an AED
In this section you will learn about AEDs and how to use one. You will learn about setting up an AED, maintenance of your AED, and also any problems you may come across. This section also covers the types of pads, and the types of batteries used in AEDs. Finally, we cover where you can find an AED, and Community AEDs.
AED's in Dental Practices
Summary
In the summary we summarise the course and explain what to expect once you have completed your course. You have access to the course for 8 months, so you are able to come back at refresh your skills when needed. We also explain how to access your certificate, CPD statement, and Evidence-Based Training Statement.
